The partners, lawyers and staff of McDougall Gauley are saddened by the loss of William (Bill) Francis Ready, Q.C. on Monday, July 8, 2019.
Bill joined the firm of Thom, Bastedo and McDougall, later McDougall Ready, in 1953, practising in the area of corporate and commercial law. He served the firm and its clients for 47 years, until his retirement in 2000.
He received his Queen’s Counsel designation in 1967, an honour given to a select group of lawyers in the province each year in recognition of their contributions to the legal profession and public service. He also received the Distinguished Service Award from the Canadian Bar Association (Saskatchewan) in 1990, which recognizes contributions and achievements by members of the Saskatchewan Bar to the legal profession, the law or the development of the law.
Bill was a tireless volunteer in the legal community and in the community at large. He served as President of the Regina Bar Association and of the Canadian Bar Association (Saskatchewan). He was a Trustee on the Regina School Board for many years and sat as Chancellor of the University of Regina from 2007 to 2013. His public service was recognized when W.F. Ready School was named in his honour in 1984 and when he was granted an honourary Doctor of Laws degree by the University of Regina in 1988.
Those of us who knew and practiced with Bill will remember his skill and ability as a lawyer, his work ethic and his sense of humour. He was a mentor to many. He will not be forgotten.
Our heartfelt condolences go to the entire Ready family.
