Susan Barber, Q.C., C. Dir. Named "Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100"

Susan Barber, Q.C., C.Dir. has been recognized as one of Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100™ from the Women's Executive Network (WXN). This prestigious award honours the country's highest-achieving female leaders in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. Award winners were selected based on their strategic vision and leadership, commitment to their communities and the financial performance of their organizations.

University of Regina President and Vice-Chancellor, Vianne Timmons nominated Barber for the award for Barber's volunteer work with the University of Regina Board of Governors. “I have great respect for her work in labour law and human rights as well as her commitment to community service,” added Timmons. “Recognized by her peers as one of the foremost legal minds in her field in Canada, she is a deserving recipient of this award.”

With her litigation experience, Sue has appeared in a number of forums including the Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board, Arbitration Boards, the Canada Industrial Relations Board, the Court of Queen's Bench, Court of Appeal and the Federal Court of Appeal. She regularly advises clients in the areas of contract litigation and construction litigation.

In addition to her professional experience, Sue has been very involved as a volunteer in the community. In 2000 her efforts were recognized when she was awarded the YWCA Woman of Distinction Award in Business, Labour and Professions. In 2007 she was named in Saskatchewan Business Magazine as a "Woman of Influence" and, in the same year, received the Community Service Award from the Canadian Bar Association, Saskatchewan Branch.

Kevin A. Lang, Q.C., a partner with McDougall Gauley LLP was not surprised by Barber's award. "Sue is a leader in the community, with both her legal and volunteer work. She has been a role model and mentor for many aspiring lawyers in our firm. We, at McDougall Gauley, are very proud of her outstanding accomplishments".
