Susan Barber, Q.C., C.Dir. is the 2013 recipient of the Dr. Robert and Norma Ferguson Award for Outstanding Service. This award recognizes an alumnus who has shown exceptional volunteer leadership and service to the University of Regina or its alumni association.
Sue served as a member of the University Board of Governors for six years, beginning in 2005 and culminating in the two years she served as chairperson, from 2009 to 2011. She also served as a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors from 1992 to 1995.
This is not the first award Sue has received. Sue has been very involved as a volunteer in the community and in 2000 her efforts were recognized when she was awarded the YWCA Woman of Distinction Award in Business, Labour and Professions. In 2007 she was named in Saskatchewan Business Magazine as a "Woman of Influence" and, in the same year, received the Community Service Award from the Canadian Bar Association, Saskatchewan Branch. In 2012 she was recognized as one of Canada's Most Powerful Women: Top 100™ from the Women's Executive Network (WXN). This prestigious award honours the country's highest-achieving female leaders in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors.
A senior partner with the law firm McDougall Gauley LLP, Sue has built a reputation as a leading practitioner in the area of labour and employment law. She was named Queen’s Counsel in 2008 and a Chartered Professional Director (C. Dir.) in 2012.
The partners, associates and staff at McDougall Gauley are very proud of this significant award. Congratulations Sue!
