The Distinguished Service Award recognizes the contributions and achievements of members of the Saskatchewan Branch of the Canadian Bar Association to the legal profession, the law, or the development of the law, as well as significant law-related achievements for the benefit of residents of Saskatchewan.
Michael’s practice focuses on banking law, insolvency law, and commercial practice, including related litigation. He has appeared before all levels of court in Canada including the Supreme Court of Canada.
Among his many accolades, Michael has been named by Best Lawyers Canada as “Lawyer of the Year- Regina” 10 times in the fields of Banking & Finance Law, Insolvency & Financial Restructuring Law, and Banking & Finance Law. He has been recognized by Benchmark Litigation Canada and Who’s Who Legal: Canada.
Michael is the Chair of the Law Reform Commission of Saskatchewan. He is a Past President of the Law Society of Saskatchewan, and was President of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada. He is a fellow of the Insolvency Institute of Canada. In 2021, was appointed the Estey Chair in Business Law at the University of Saskatchewan College of Law.
CBA Saskatchewan will present a virtual ceremony on January 12, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. to recognize the two recipients of the award.
