For the third time in the last three years, Lauren J. Wihak, Chair of McDougall Gauley’s Administrative Law Practice Group, was invited to speak at the Annual National Forum on Administrative Law and Practice put on by Osgoode Hall Law School, in Toronto. Lauren spoke on a panel dealing with emergent issues in standard of review, which took place on October 11, 2023.
The Osgoode National Forum on Administrative Law & Practice brings together judges, senior practitioners and academics from all across Canada for a two-day immersive conference dealing with all manner of topical issues in administrative law. Lauren had this to say about her participation:
“I love attending this conference every year, and have been grateful to have been invited to participate more actively as a presenter the past several years. Many of the speakers and panels raise issues in the administrative law field that we are only starting to grapple with and litigate here in Saskatchewan. I have welcomed the opportunity to learn from the experiences of colleagues from across the country, and to obtain the perspective of judges, on these issues, and to bring this knowledge to my own practice here in Saskatchewan. Participating as a presenter has also given me the opportunity to deepen my own knowledge of topical issues in this field, and to use that additional knowledge and experience in the assistance of both clients and colleagues alike."
Lauren’s practice focuses on administrative law and appeals. She has been invited to speak at numerous conferences and seminars on administrative law both in Saskatchewan and across Canada. She has also authored several papers and articles on administrative law, some of which have been cited by Canadian courts.
Governments enact complicated regulatory and administrative requirements and regimes that affect both businesses and individuals alike, all of which fall under the umbrella of administrative law. Our Administrative Law Practice Team at McDougall Gauley acts in all manner of administrative matters, including tax assessments, professional discipline, and regulatory compliance. The McDougall Gauley team regularly appears before administrative agencies and statutory tribunals in relation to administrative decision-making, and also challenges administrative decision-making on review or appeal in the courts.
