McDougall Gauley LLP's Lauren J. Wihak will be a panelist at The Advocates' Society's (TAS) program Supreme Court of Canada Advocacy on June 13, 2024, presenting on the panel titled "Tips for Getting Leave to Appeal at the SCC."
The Supreme Court of Canada Advocacy program will discuss the role of the Supreme Court of Canada (SCC) and how preparation for appearing before the SCC differs from other hearings. Lauren’s panel in particular will focus on the tricky issue of obtaining leave to appeal to the nation’s highest Court, and how this differs from the advocacy found in other levels of appellate court. Lauren will bring her experience as a former SCC law clerk and as counsel who has appeared before the SCC on both leave applications and appeals to this panel, which also includes leading SCC advocates from across the country, in both the private and public sectors.
TAS is a not-for-profit association dedicated to providing professional development, such as through these programs, and networking for lawyers across the country.
Lauren Wihak is a partner at McDougall Gauley. Her practice focuses on administrative and public law, civil litigation, and appeals, and Lauren is the point-person at McDougall Gauley for matters going before the SCC. Lauren frequently appears in the Court of Appeal for Saskatchewan, and has also appeared before appellate courts in Manitoba and British Columbia, as well as before the Supreme Court of Canada.
