On October 23, 2023, Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) unveiled a remarkable opportunity for Ukrainian nationals living in Canada. This new pathway to Permanent Residency is a significant development that brings hope and stability to the Ukrainian community in Canada.
IRCC has created two key categories of eligibility for this pathway:
Category 1 – Family Members of Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents in Canada
To be eligible for this category, you must:
- Be a Ukrainian national.
- Be a family member of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
- Be physically present in Canada when submitting your application and when permanent residency is granted.
- Hold valid temporary resident status in Canada or have applied to restore your status.
- Meet other essential requirements specified by IRCC.
Category 2 – Spouse or Common-Law Partner of a Ukrainian National with Family in Canada
To be eligible for this category, you must:
- Be the spouse or common-law partner of a Ukrainian national.
- Your spouse or partner must be unable to leave Ukraine, be missing, have passed away, or be presumed to have passed away.
- Be a family member of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
- Be physically present in Canada when submitting your application and when granted permanent residence.
- Meet other necessary requirements specified by IRCC.
This category is especially designed to provide support to those who find themselves in challenging situations, where their Ukrainian partner faces difficulties.
If you meet the requirements of either of these categories, the good news is that you can include eligible family members in your applications, potentially bringing your loved ones to Canada as well.
This is an extraordinary opportunity for Ukrainian nationals living in Canada to secure their Permanent Residency and continue building their lives in this welcoming country.
